Yo' Mama
Today's kerfuffle is what Howard Dean said in a speech to some Dems last night:
Republicans are "a pretty monolithic party. They all behave the same. They all look the same. It's pretty much a white Christian party."
Republican bloggers have been scrambling all day to point out how evil a thing this is to say. Why? It's really not news. Granted, it's not entirely accurate (40% of Hispanic voters chose Bush), but it's certainly not inflammatory. We have been trained, however, to respond as though attacked at any mention of race. Whether something libelous or negative has been said about a race doesn't matter: saying 'white' or 'black' in a political context is the equivalent of saying
'tu madre' in a
colonia.
